Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga on Saturday pitted his camp in the Western Kenya region where he attended a burial ceremony of one of his friends in Kakamega county. The vocal leader of the opposition was accompanied by his close allies from the Azimio la Umoja coalition and others from the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.

Among the leaders who joined Raila Odinga on Saturday were Kakamega county governor Hon Fernandez Barasa, Kakamega county Senator Hon Boni Khalwale, Nairobi county Senator Hon Edwin Sifuna, Rashid Echesa, Ayub Savula, MP Peter Salasya among other leaders.

While addressing residents of Kakamega county, Senator Boni Khalwale slammed Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon Musalia Mudavadi accusing him of derailing his dream of succeeding Wycliffe Oparanya as the next Kakamega county governor.

Senator Khalwale said that he was determined to succeed Oparanya during last year’s general elections but the soft-spoken Mudavadi allowed Cleophas Malalah to fly the Kenya Kwanza Alliance ticket.

He vowed never to listen to Musalia Mudavadi again in the upcoming 2027 general elections as he will contest to face the incumbent governor Fernandes Barasa. He stated that his main objective was to become the new governor of Kakamega County.

“I am tired, 2022 I was replacing Oparanya but Mudavadi came with his soft heart saying the bullfighter should be removed but Mudavadi I am telling you today from Matungu in Mumias 2027 you will not remove me i want to face off with Fernandez Barasa i remove him. I want to be the governor of Kakamega.” Khalwale said.
