In an exclusive interview with The Nairobian, Anne Njeri Njoroge shed light on her life, experiences, and the challenges she has faced in the past few weeks. Traced to her base in Mombasa, Njeri engaged in a measured conversation, dispelling rumours of her hiding and opening up about the burdens she has borne.
Seated in a high-end hotel on the North Coast during lunch hour, Njeri defied earlier reports suggesting her residence in the neighbouring Kilifi County. Contrary to the speculations, she asserted that she is not in hiding and expressed gratitude for overcoming the recent challenges with the help of God.
Njeri revealed her dual residency, being a citizen of both Kenya and Dubai. She emphasised her deep-rooted love for Kenya, citing it as the reason for embarking on the journey to ship oil. Apart from her Kilifi residence, she disclosed having another permanent home in Dubai, a city she described as a melting pot of business opportunities, emphasising the financial requirements for living and gaining citizenship there.
Despite her purported billionaire status, Njeri claimed to lead a simple life, attributing her choice to her faith as a woman of God. She expressed a desire not to flaunt her wealth and mentioned her children, emphasising that they are in Kenya, with the youngest currently sitting exams. Njeri continued her studies around oil imports even after relocating to Dubai, showcasing a commitment to expanding her knowledge in her field.
Notably, during the interview, observers noticed a medium-sized prayer bead tied across the palm of Njeri’s right hand. This spiritual symbol allowed her fingers to caress the globules, reflecting her strong connection to faith. Throughout the conversation, Njeri frequently invoked the name of God and mentioned ‘Nyota,’ associated with Pastor Ezekiel of New Life Ministries.
When questioned about her association with Pastor Ezekiel, Njeri asserted her strong belief in and respect for men of God. She acknowledged knowing Pastor Ezekiel and expressed no issues with him, highlighting that she visited his place for prayers upon her return to Kenya.
Addressing her journey into the oil business, Njeri revealed a transition from the mineral trade and other commodities to the oil sector. With a career spanning more than three decades, she brought a wealth of experience to the industry.
