According to a police statement shared by the security department in Iringa Province, Tanzania, the slain man, Jacob Chang’a, and his girlfriend, Swiga Mwakaloba a food vendor, had spent their good moments in the hotel before they met with their deaths. Restaurant workers got suspicious when the two failed to open the door the following morning. The suspicion culminated in a peep at the doorhole that saw them lifeless in their bed.
“We approached their room, where we found that it was still locked. We attempted to knock on the door with no response. This situation made us suspicious; hence, we peered through the doorhole, where we saw them lifeless. We informed the police, who retrieved the naked bodies and moved them to Iringa City Mortuary,” one of the eyewitnesses told the police, as quoted by TV 47 Kenya.
“When we entered the room, it was unfortunate that the two were already dead. Next, their bodies were placed in their clothes, and a burning jiko was placed in the corner of their room. Although we have commenced an investigation, we highly suspect that they died of suffocation from the burning jiko,” the Iringa Police boss, Robert Ngucheleni, told the media personnel.
