President William Ruto took decisive action on Tuesday, calling for an urgent crisis meeting to address the looming threat of fuel price hikes.

This move came in response to remarks made by Energy Cabinet Secretary Davies Chirchir, who suggested the possibility of an upward revision in fuel prices.

National Assembly budget committee chair, Ndindi Nyoro, informed Ghetto Radio that President Ruto gathered key leaders from the Kenya Kwanza faction to tackle the crisis head-on, recognizing the potential economic strain this could place on Kenyan citizens.

“The economy is heading in the right direction and we are doing our best. Fuel prices will not rise to the predicted levels,” Nyoro assured.

Chirchir’s statement, made on Monday before the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), indicated that fuel prices might see an escalation should the ongoing conflict in Gaza involving Israel persist. This announcement prompted widespread public concern and outcry.

Interestingly, amidst these developments, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) observed a global decrease in crude oil prices. Notably, neighboring Tanzania responded to the shift by reducing their own pump prices.

This crisis meeting convened at State House, Nairobi on November 7, 2023, reflects the government’s proactive approach to addressing potential economic challenges. As discussions progress, further updates will be provided.
