Hours after Meru MCAs impeached Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza, Busia senator Okiya Omtatah has finally taken a bold move that might be Kawira Mwangaza’s first win.
As relayed by Stephen Mutoro, Okiya Omtatah has filed a petition in court seeking to challenge Kawira Mwangaza’s ouster.
According to the report, Okiya Omtatah now wants High Court to declare unconstitutional the law that County assemblies and the senate have been using to Impeach governors.
“Saving Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza? Busia Senator Andrew Okiya Omtatah Okoiti rushes to the High Court, under Article 165(2)(d)(i), a day after her impeachment, urging the Court to find and declare as unconstitutional the law the @Senate_KE and County Assemblies have been using to impeach Governors”, the report intimates.
This comes after 59 Meru county members of assembly unanimously supported the motion to impeach Kawira Mwangaza.
Apparently, this is a major boost for Kawira Mwangaza whose fate now lies within the senate despite surviving the first Impeachment motion months ago.
On the other side, Kawira Mwangaza has received messages of support from Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, Public Service cabinet secretary Mosea Kuria, Millicent Omanga among others.
She allegedly being accused of favourism as well as bullying other leaders from Meru who have instead fueled her ouster via the county assembly.
Lastly in your opinion, do you agree with Okiya Omtatah’s move of trying to protect Governors from unlawful Impeachment?
