The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an important update regarding the country’s weather patterns, aligning with President William Ruto’s previous statements. They predict a week of increased rainfall, particularly affecting regions like the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and North-eastern Kenya, where isolated storms are expected.
Furthermore, the department anticipates high daytime temperatures, exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, in various parts of the country, including the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. On the other hand, certain areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley may witness low nighttime temperatures, dropping below 10 degrees Celsius. This forecast follows President Ruto’s recent assertion that the country would not experience severe El Nino effects, suggesting instead that the nation would encounter heavy rains. The Meteorological Department’s report corroborates this shift, citing isolated thunderstorms in several regions.
In a previous projection, the department had warned of El Nino effects potentially extending into January 2024, affecting regions like Western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley. However, it appears that the situation has evolved, bringing some relief to the nation. As the week unfolds, Kenyans are advised to stay updated with weather reports to prepare for possible rain-related challenges and ensure their safety and well-being.
