Police in Elburgon are currently investigating a deeply unsettling case where a 43-year-old man was discovered attempting to exhume his wife’s body, who had passed away and was interred in February 2023 in Munyukwa village.

The shocking incident took place on Sunday, October 15, 2023, when local Chief Jonnah Komen received information from assistant chief Haron Koima.

The latter had visited the suspect’s residence upon receiving a tip from the concerned public.

Chief Komen later sent police to the scene after receiving more information from the children that their father was exhuming their mom’s remains.

It was further disclosed that the man had been living alone since expelling his sons after his wife’s demise.

According to Chief Komen, the suspect’s arrest was made possible through the collaborative efforts of fellow chiefs, members of Nyumba Kumi, and concerned citizens.

The man attempted to evade capture by fleeing to a neighboring maize field, but he was eventually apprehended and is currently being held at the Elburgon Police Station pending court charges.

The community surrounding the suspect had reportedly been experiencing discord with him.

An anonymous resident speculated that the man may have become involved with a sect that might have influenced his behavior.

Chief Komen affirmed that the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has taken over the case to ascertain the motive behind the attempt to exhume his late wife.

The grave was found partially uncovered, with the cross placed aside before it was resealed. The tools used in this disturbing endeavor, including shovels and axes, will be pivotal in the ongoing police investigation.

As the case unfolds, the local community waits with bated breath for further details regarding the events leading up to this macabre discovery. It is illegal to exhume human remains without a court order.
