President William Ruto have today reacted to Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyong’o’s stance as far as the hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is concerned.
It should be remembered that Governor Nyongo and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa had released a joint statement, faulting the government over move to leave out Kisumu and Kakamega in the naming of the venues where the 2027 AFCON will be played in Kenya.
Now, speaking in Kisumu during the Commissioning of MV Uhuru II at Kenya Shipyards Limited, Kisumu County today, President Ruto said that he had taken the Kisumu Governor’s complain over the move into account.
Ruto said that after listening to the concerns raised by the Kisumu Governor, they have decided to reconsider their decision concerning the regions that will host the AFCON 2027 and other tournaments in Kenya.
“I know professor Anyang Nyong’o is on record as to making his stance know as to where is the place of Kisumu in hosting some of these games that we have spread across the country.
“I want to confirm to you governor that we have taken into account the place of Kisumu in hosting some of the tournaments that we have spread across the country,” Ruto said amidst applause from the crowd.
