There was drama outside Judiciary offices in Nairobi on Friday after hundreds of youths turned up for protests against the decision by three judges to uphold lGBTQ’s freedom of association.

The protests which took place along the streets of Nairobi CBD ended up at the Judiciary offices, where hundreds of faithful held their peaceful protests against the decision.

It was, however, the decision of Nyali MP Mohamed Ali alias Jicho Pevu to join the protests that caught the attention of Kenyans. The vocal UDA MP could be seen in the midst of demonstrators as one of them leads the protests.

“Three Supreme Court judges surprised Kenyans when they ruled that homosexuals have rights of associations. We as Africans consider homosexuality as evil, unnatural, and ungodly, and has come as a big sock to most Kenyans. This act of legalizing lesbianism through a backdoor is a form of injustice, an energy of the constitution and should remain illegal,” stated one of the muslim leaders

They took issues with Justice Philomena Muilu, Smokin Wanjala and others, claiming they chose to ignore the constitution and went against the customs and laws of the land over LGBTQ

This was after the Supreme Court of Kenya ruled that the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community have the right to association.

The judgment brings to a close a nearly decade-long court battle and debate on the rights accorded to gays and homosexuals in the country.

The judges in their majority judgment said the decision by the lower courts to deny the members of the gay community in Kenya their right to register as an Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) was discriminatory.
