Addressing security agencies on Tuesday, October 3 after UN Security Council voted in favor of Kenya’s request to lead a multinational security drill in crime-torne Haiti, president William Ruto exuded confidence that the mission will be a success.

Ruto’s pronouncement has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans and leaders with some condemning the government for rushing to vacuum other people’s floors when Kenya’s if littered with dirt.

Albeit of Ruto affirming his support for Haiti and committing to see to it that Haitians once again enjoys relative peace and calm, going by the nature of response and the real situation in Haiti might force him to draw back.

Firstly, Kenya today experiences similar challenges which sparked anti-government protests in 2018 in Haiti. Haitians took to the streets to oppose fuel prices and when their clarion calls fell on the dead ears of their leaders, what was formerly a protest transmuted to anarchy and present crisis.

Leaders drawn from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio have warned the president from losing sleep over the neighbor’s problems but instead concentrate and solve Kenya problems.

Kenyans are hurting from the high cost of living brought about by many factors among them the ever rising fuel prices and Ruto’s Haitian concerns might make Kenyans feel that somewhat their leader has overshaken them and that will be dangerous lot.

Despite of Haitian prime minister appealing for help from US and UN in 2022, the help has been long in waiting and Ruto might after a short run realize that sending hundreds of Kenyan troops was a bad play.

The hovering questions as to why United States and United Nations took too long to send aid to Haiti might as well prompt the Kenyan president to rethink for questions as to who pays for the expenses of officers and what the country seeks to achieve has already set a bad precedent for Ruto and as Lao Tzu once advised, Ruto might draw back his forces if victory is unattainable and existing conditions unsupportive.
