Today during the Senate sitting Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale asked tough questions concerning the Kenya sending around 1,000 police officers to Haiti to combat increased gang crimes.
According to Khalwale Haiti is 12,119 Kilometers away from Kenya and it takes 13 hours of flying. He went ahead and revealed the cheapest flight costs Ksh 220,700.He therefore asked what the Government of President William Samoei Ruto hopes to gain by taking our police to Haiti given those statistics. This tough question was directed to Defence Cabinet Secretary Honorable Aden Duale who diverted and said that he can’t share that information but instead said that question goes to Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki because it is his domain.
It should be remembered that the United Nations Security Council approved Kenya’s move to sent one thousand police officers to Haiti to help in combating the notorious gangs that have been causing insecurity in Haiti’s Capital Port-au-Prince.
In my opinion, this is a good question from Boni Khalwale. And it is good it is coming from a Kenyan Kwanza politician.
President William Samoei Ruto should tell us what Kenya will gain from this mission. Is it money or international respect?
One worrying thing is that these notorious gangs seems to have overpowered the Haitian police meaning that they are dangerous and that might trouble our police officers and even kill them.
I personally feel that President William Ruto should stop this move if he really cares for the lives of our police officers and their families.
