Tension is High along Kisumu -Kericho border as new clashes are reported,three individuals are feared dead, and several others have sustained injuries following a fresh outbreak of violence in the Sondu area, situated along the Kisumu-Kericho border.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, sending shockwaves throughout the region.
According to Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner Darwin Orina, the victims have been rushed to Nyabondo Mission Hospital for medical treatment. Orina stated, “We will provide a comprehensive update as soon as we gather more information regarding the situation.”
This unsettling development highlights the grave consequences of insecurity that have plagued the region.
Disturbingly, reports indicate that there were prior warnings of a potential attack in Sondu during the night, with concerned citizens alerting security personnel. However, it appears that little action was taken to thwart the assailants.
As residents of Sondu endured a sleepless night, the attackers managed to infiltrate a neighboring village near Sondu Union, compounding the security crisis.
The deteriorating security situation has left the community in a state of fear and despair. As of 3 a.m. this morning, one fatality has been reported, and several others have been injured.
Local leaders, including Nyakach MP, have raised their voices in protest, urging immediate action to address the ongoing violence. The MP declared, “Enough is enough,” vowing to collaborate with top security authorities to find a lasting solution to the insecurity plaguing the area.
