President William Ruto on Monday commended his deputy for giving a great speech.

The Head of State narrated how Rigathi Gachagua used to ask him to interpret statements when foreigners were speaking

“When foreigners were speaking, he used to ask me to tell him what they were saying and I used to guide and explain to him properly,” he said.

Kumbe alikuwa ananienjoy,” Ruto added.

This loose translates to: “He has now adopted the English language he was asking me to translate. He must have been making fun of me”.

Gachagua has always made it public that he used to have struggles in speaking and hearing the English language.

Last month, in his usual comical manner, the Deputy President treated the crowd to raucous laughter as he teased how residents of the Luo Nyanza region have an admirable grasp of the English language.

In the same light, the DP joked that Interior PS Raymond Omollo had been troubling him by “speaking a lot of English”, and thus urged the people of Nyanza to inform the Interior PS that he is only but a “common” man.
