While on his official visit to Meru county to assess the security situation, Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki banned Okolea programme which is driven by Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Kindiki associated the programme with incitement adding that it has no difference with maandamano. Kindiki however stated that he has no issue with the Governor heading normal meetings in the county.

Moments after this ban by the CS, Mwangaza has broken her silence where she has vowed that the Okolea programme will go on.

While quoting the book of Hebrews, the Governor has said that operation Okolea will continue.

Okolea programme is an initiative by Governor Kawira Mwangaza to award the less privileged in society with goodies such as blankets, mattresses and in some cases Cows.

A week ago, an Okolea meeting turned chaotic in Maua Town where residents grabbed a Cow set to benefit a poor family and ended up slaughtering it. The residents then divided the meat among themselves. Some people were injured during these fracas where the deputy governor is still nursing injuries at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi.

Meru residents have been accusing the Governor of misusing county funds to sponsor unreliable projects. Most of Meru MCAs have also accused the Governor of misappropriating county finances.
