In a tragic turn of events on the 15th of September, 2023, a police commander met an untimely demise that sent shockwaves through his rural home and the local community. According to the police report filed under O/B 36/15/09/2023, the commander, whose name has been identified as Opiyo, was diligently carrying out his routine duties within the serene surroundings of his rural residence when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed to Kenyans.co.ke that Opiyo had just celebrated his recent wedding, a joyous occasion that was supposed to mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life. Tragically, fate had different plans for him.
The incident unfolded on a fateful day as a matatu, en route to Sori from Ndhiwa, approached a critical juncture. At that crucial moment, the matatu’s driver made a sudden and ill-fated decision to change lanes abruptly, resulting in a catastrophic collision with an oncoming Toyota G-Touring vehicle. The collision was head-on, causing both vehicles to sustain extensive damage.
The repercussions of this horrifying accident were devastating. Opiyo, the police commander, succumbed to his injuries while en route to the Ndhiwa Sub-County hospital. Six other individuals also suffered injuries in the accident, and they were promptly rushed to the same hospital for immediate medical attention.
Meanwhile, the matatu driver, in a critical condition, was rushed to the Sori Lakeside hospital for urgent medical care. Both vehicles involved in the collision were towed to the station yard, where they were detained, awaiting thorough inspection due to the substantial damages they had incurred.
In the wake of this tragic incident, the deceased’s body was respectfully moved to the Kirindo Hospital Mortuary, where it awaited a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
