Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has responded to the recent surge in fuel prices with a strong message to critics.

In a heated speech, Kuria addressed the concerns about the high cost of living, asserting that simply protesting or complaining on social media would not effectively lower these costs. He discouraged spending excessive time on platforms like Twitter, implying that such actions would not lead to tangible results.

“People these days always talk about the cost of living. The cost of living cannot be lowered through protests. If you camp on Twitter the whole day complaining, you will not lower the cost of living,” he said.

While expressing frustrations with critics, Kuria challenged those who believe fuel prices are too high to take matters into their own hands. He suggested that if they thought the cost of fuel was excessive, they should drill their own crude oil reserves. In an unprecedented offer, he even said that if anyone could show him a crude oil reserve in the country, he would be willing to drill it gracefully.

“If you think the cost of fuel is too high, drill your own crude oil reserve. Those people who like making noise can even show me a crude oil reserve in the country and I will gracefully drill it,” the CS added.

Kuria expressed his exasperation with what he saw as a tendency to focus on complaining rather than taking advantage of opportunities to lower the cost of living. He specifically mentioned the potential benefits of leveraging subsidized fertilizer but noted that people seemed more inclined to voice complaints about factors beyond their control.

Acknowledging the global surge in crude oil prices, Kuria implied that external factors had contributed to the current situation. However, he underscored the importance of hard work and collective efforts. He reassured the people of Ruiru that they would continue to work diligently and do their best to address these challenges.

“These people are strange. The things we can do to lower the cost of living like leveraging on the subsidized fertilizer they do not want to do. They only want to complain about things that are out of our hands. There is a surge in crude oil prices all over the world. We us the people of Ruiru we will continue working hard and doing our best,” Kuria remarked.
