The acting CEO of Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Mr Joel Wamalwa has revealed details of TikTok Live feature to be banned in Kenya during an interview with Citizen journalist Muli Kanene yesterday.

During the interview the CEO revealed steps the Board will be taking to ensure clean online content on the popular app.

The board has demanded Tiktok feature to be disabled until they ascertain credentials that are originating from Kenya and they have accepted within their platform they can determine such features are coming from Kenya.To push more resources within the app.

The lives which usually start from around 10.00 p.m till 3 in the morning. The app managers have to tailor their algorithms resources in Kenya to which now they will take down the accounts.

The CEO further added, we have asked them if the live violates the community guidelines it should not run more than one minute and the account should be taken down immediately.

We have also pushed for the gadget enabling the live feature should be disabled on that particular live feature.

This will make it difficult for a user to access Tiktok as they will be completely banned from the app.Even in a scenario where a user may purchase a new gadget they still wont be able to access TikTok.The obcene user will be completely unable to host live features promoting their obscene content.

The move which is aimed at protecting children online who may come across harmful content comes after President Ruto met with TikTok Ceo in August and agreed to set up an office in Kenya to ” coordinate TikTok’s operation in Africa.

No further details were given on the arrangement or when the Kenyan office would begin operations.

The announcement came barely 10 days after Kenyan legislators received a petition from a private citizen demanding that TikTok be banned in the country for promoting obscenity.
