For the past months, there has been intense political rivalry between Azimio leader Raila Amolo Odinga and UDA leader and the President of Kenya William Ruto. The political difference between and Ruto at one point made Raila Odinga and his Azimio team to resort to anti-government protests.
President William Ruto and his DP Rigathi Gachagua condemned the protests that were organized by Raila Odinga. Ruto said that the protest causes mayhem and serious destruction of properties in the country.

As one of the key strategies of silencing opposition leader Raila Odinga, President William Ruto today on Monday, 28th, August 2023 said that he is ready to establish the office of the opposition leader. Speaking at Kapsokwony Township in Mount Elgon, Bongoma county, Ruto said that the office will be funded by the government of Kenya.
President William Ruto added that after creating the office of opposition, the opposition leader can go ahead and correct the government from morning to evening. Ruto said that the opposition leader should feel free to criticize the government whenever necessary. Establishing the office of opposition maybe one of the fundamental techniques that President William Ruto may employ to prevent Raila Odinga from organizing anti-government demonstrations in the country.
