Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa, professionally known as Burna Boy has once again addressed rumors of his alleged involvement in the shooting that happened at Cubana Club a year ago.
In his newly-released song titled “Thanks” featuring American Rapper J Cole, Burnaboy refers to the incident and questions why some Nigerians want to see him fail yet he is winning accolades for his country and elevating it to the global stage.
In the song Burna Boy says, “You say that I’m cancelled again. You say I shoot pesin for Cubana/ Because I wan collect pesin woman (That’s how they act, right?). Is this the m*king thanks I get for making my people proud every chance I get?”
In 2022, Burna Boy came under media scrutiny following accusations that he shot a man in an attempt to speak with the man’s wife.
These rumors were fueled further by Burna Boy’s decision to remain silent on the matter rather than confront the allegations directly. However, in a January 2023 concert, Burna Boy finally addressed the rumors, referring to them as detractors who did not want to see him succeed.
