A shocking case of child abuse and murder has come to light in Kajiado County, where a young couple buried their seven-month-old daughter in a shallow grave after she died under mysterious circumstances. The couple, aged 18 and 15, claimed that the child, Blessing Mutheu, had fallen sick and died before they buried her on an unknown date before August 18.

However, their story did not add up when the police visited their home in Ongata Rongai following a tip-off from the locals who had not seen the child for at least three days. The couple initially lied that they had buried the child at their rural home in Kakamega, but later confessed that they had dug a secret grave in a garden in Kimandiro area along Nkoroi South road.

The police obtained court orders to exhume the body of the child on Sunday and took it to the City Mortuary for autopsy. The postmortem revealed that the child had suffered severe injuries on her body, including bruises on the lower and upper limbs, arms, thighs and head. The pathologists concluded that the child had died of torture and not natural causes as alleged by the parents.

The couple was arrested and detained in custody pending further investigations into the matter. They are facing charges of murder, burying a child without a permit, and giving false information to the police. The police are also trying to establish the motive behind the brutal killing of the innocent child. The case has sparked outrage and condemnation from the public and human rights activists who have called for justice for Blessing Mutheu.
