Azimio leader Raila Odinga was today forced to temporarily pause his speech during an Inter-Denominational Requiem Mass for 12 victims of alleged police brutality from Siaya County at Bondo Stadium.
It was after the Azimio leader had been invited to the podium to make his speech when he told the crowd that it was a sad day to mourn those who lost their lives in the demonstrations.
Raila said that the people who died in the anti-government protest did not deserve to die at all because they did nothing wrong.
“These youths did not deserve to die…,” Raila said before his speech was temporarily halted by a group of youths who were making their way in to listen to him.
The group youths filled the space in front of the cameras that were being used to cover the event hence blocking the cameras, forcing Raila Odinga to intervene.
“Vijana(Youths), sit down. You are blocking the cameras there. Just sit,” Raila Odinga told the youths after pausing his speech.
It was after the youths had settled down that the seasoned opposition leader went ahead with his speech, in which he accused the police of using excessive power on the protestors.
Raila said that it is very sad that the police who should protect the youths are the ones who are now killing the same citizens that the should be protecting.
He compared the alleged police killings to the killings that were witnessed during the Nyayo era.
“These people died a very painful death. The are victims of bullets by the police who are supposed to protect them,” Raila said
