Musician Willy Paul took to his socials to highlight his significant contributions to the music industry.
At the same time, the Saldido President expressed his frustrations with the lack of support from the local media.
The artist claimed to have carried the music industry alone since the early days, citing various achievements that have earned him recognition on a global scale.
”I’ve carried this music Industry alone since kitambo” Pozee said.
A Trailblazer’s Journey
The post emphasized his remarkable journey as a trailblazer in the Kenyan music scene.
He proudly mentioned being the first artist from Africa to be featured on the influential entertainment platform, The Shade Room.
Additionally, he boasted about becoming the first East African artist to trend at the #2 spot on Apple TV America, an achievement that caught the attention of music enthusiasts worldwide.
He also pointed to the tremendous success of his song “#ID0,” which became a massive hit at weddings across the globe and secured the top spot on charts in various parts of the world for several years.
Despite these achievements, Willy Paul expressed disappointment with the lack of recognition and support he received from the local music industry and media.
”I got a lot of support from outside and not here. Over here they kept praising artists that made no sense and had no humour In their works!”
Frustration with Local Media and Blogs
In his candid post, he criticized the local media and blogs for allegedly contributing to the decline of the Kenyan music industry.
He accused them of supporting mediocrity and foreign musicians instead of promoting and celebrating homegrown talent.
Believing that this lack of support has hindered the growth and progress of Kenyan music.
”Blogs here have contributed 100% to destroying our industry by supporting mediocrity and foreign musicians over their own. Well like i said, i did It once and i can do it again beginning now!!”
A Call for Recognition and Support
While asserting that he has proven himself as a successful artist, Willy Paul made it clear that he is not here to fight with anyone.
Instead, he aims to highlight the reality of the challenges faced by Kenyan musicians and the need for recognition and support from their own country.
The artist called on his loyal fans, whom he refers to as his “Day One’s,” to continue supporting him and his music.
He also urged the local media and blogs to change their approach and give more attention to Kenyan artists, contributing to the growth and success of the industry.
