After releasing a statement on Wednesday alluding that they would hold a mega rally at Central Park on Thursday, Azimio leaders have now come out to say that they were just pranking the police, after the rally failed to kick off.

According to a NTV reporter, an evening phone call from one of senior Azimio MP confirmed that the planned Central Park rally would not take place as earlier communicated.

The reporter stated that the MP said that the reports of holding a rally at Central Park was just a prank aimed at keeping the police officers busy. The lawmaker told NTV that there was no way that the politicians would hand themselves to the police, who they claimed to have intentions of arresting them.

“I have just spoken to some Azimio MPs who have told me that the Central Park rally was just a prank and was never intended to happen. The MPs have told me that they just wanted to keep the police busy and give them some work to do. The leaders told me there is no way they could hand themselves to the police officers who have been instructed to arrest them,” noted the NTV reporter.

This development came just a few hours after the Azimio parliamentary caucus confirmed that the Central Park rally would take place starting from 3 PM on Thursday.

The situation at Central Park remained relatively calm on Thursday afternoon with high police presence. The facility is still under construction.
