Ledama took to Twitter alleging that eight officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) forcefully entered his home presumably to arrest him without giving any reason. In a tweet posted on his verified account, the vocal Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party legislator stated: “So eight DCI officers have gone to my home to look for me! Very stupid! What law have I broken?”

Senator Ole Kina questioned the motive behind the intrusion, claiming no warrant was presented and the officers did not specify any charges against him. He insisted he had not broken any laws and termed the incident as an act of intimidation aimed at silencing dissenting voices. The tense situation comes amid growing concerns over increased crackdowns on politicians allied to the Azimio Coalition following the disputed August 2022 elections. Ole Kina has been a fierce critic of President William Ruto’s administration since taking office.

As of now, the DCI is yet to comment on the Senator’s claims. This incident has sparked outrage from a section of Kenyans on social media who have rallied in support of Ole Kina while accusing the DCI of misusing powers to oppress political opponents. Moving forward, the DCI needs to provide clarity on the Senator’s accusations and take action against officers if the operation is proven to have been carried out illegally. Politicians also have a duty to use proper channels to resolve issues without causing unnecessary tensions among citizens.
