Munya resigned from the political party after being appointed to join retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet. Speaking to the press, Munya announced that he had been reinstated as the party leader and had been mandated by the national executive council to represent the party in various meetings and forums. He took the opportunity to encourage Kenyans to participate in large-scale demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday.

He warned the government against trying to impede the protests, stating that the Party of National Unity (PNU) supported the people’s right to express themselves through peaceful protests, picketing, and meetings. Munya did not specify if he would personally lead the demonstrations in his county. In contrast, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro declared that protests would not be permitted in the Mt Kenya region, asserting that leaders from the area unanimously opposed anarchy and violence.

Munya responded by affirming his active involvement in the demonstrations and attributing his reluctance to disclose specific details to concerns about potential disruption by uniformed saboteurs. Additionally, Munya criticized the withdrawal of security for Azimio leaders, emphasizing that all citizens deserved security and that the government should protect all leaders involved in organizing the events to ensure their safety.
