Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol now claims that his boss, governor James Orengo, has cut off communication lines with him.
He says that Orengo no longer wants anything to do with him, and never even picks his calls, after the Senate thwarted his impeachment attempts.
The DG claims that he has been seeking reconciliation with the county chief for the sake of the county and the smooth running of Siaya.
He has stated that now that things seem irreversible, he has decided to focus on his work, holding that he is elected and not serving at Orengo’s mercy.
“I have tried calling Orengo three times but he has not picked up my calls. But you know I am elected and not appointed, so work continues. I do not have to rely on him,” he told the Standard on Saturday.
He has added that the way things are going, he would be happy if the county leadership was disbanded so they can seek fresh mandate after their fallout.
Oduol has at the same time added that nobody will prevent him from accessing his office, maintaining that it was given to him by Siaya voters.
“I am the deputy governor of Siaya. I will be here and if I have to go anywhere, Orengo must also go. But if he wants me to go. I will be happy if the county is disbanded and we seek a fresh mandate. This is our government and not his,” he told the paper.
He has also stated that he will not wait for Orengo to assign him roles as is usually the case in the running of county governments.
“I want to be the public watchdog. You know in most cases deputy governors have to wait to be assigned roles by the governor but a deputy governor can assign himself a duty,” he added.
This comes weeks after Siaya MCAs impeached him for among others, pushing the county to acquire him a luxurious office seat.
He was saved by Senators allied to President William Ruto, which is seen as a serious blunder on his side, considering that he hails from an opposition zone.
