President William Ruto has commented on his visit to Homa Bay County after criticism from a section of leaders allied to Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, and the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance camp.

Most leaders from the Raila Camp’s snubbed the Home Coming ceremony of the Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo since the president and the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were attending, joining the ODM boss for a rally in Kisumu.

The Azimio allies, most of whom are yet to recognize Ruto as the president, have been claiming that the president is out to use Omollo and other leaders from Nyanza and who are serving in his government to make inroads to the region ahead of the 2027 polls.

In his remarks, Ruto defended his visit to Homa Bay, saying the country is out to deal with individual and tribal based politics, with am aim of focusing on issue-based politics.

“People have said that I have come to Homa Bay now for the fourth time. That is true, and it is not ordinary or what people expect. In fact we are upsetting the status quo by coming here. Most people are used to ‘old’ politics. Our aim is to change regions of dirty politics.”

“We want to do away with politics of certain parties or coalitions, politics of division and tribalism, and have politics of unity”

“I am not here in Homa Bay because I do not have anywhere else to go, there are so many places I can go. I am here deliberately because I want the people of Homa Bay to know that I am out to serve all Kenyans irrespective of how they voted in the last polls.”
