A picture taken yesterday during the Saba Saba protests in Kisii County sparked debate online over police violence and their responsibility to maintain order during demonstrations. The image showed an obviously old woman running by a policeman brandishing a baton in his direction.

Many Kenyans who claimed to be familiar with the woman argued that the officer’s actions were unjustified, especially given that the elderly woman was unarmed and did not constitute a threat to the cops who were putting an end to protests in the town.

The woman could be seen in the image that quickly became popular carrying a jembe and a tiny bag. “The female subject in this picture is from Suneka. According to a person familiar with the woman, she is psychologically unstable.

Reports also said that the widow had lately lost her kid in Kisii under mysterious circumstances, which made the situation worse.

“Her son died mysteriously days ago, alleged to have died by suicide while some claimed he was murdered,” the insider revealed.

“As if that weren’t bad enough, the cruel world brought this mother to her knees by subjecting her to a police beating. She became swept up in the protests against the administration. Permit me to call out the police for acting cruelly in the interest of fairness and standards, ” a source told a media person.
