A lady by the name Robinah narrated a sad story of how she put up with an abusive husband who she later came to kill accidentally.
She revealed that she was brought up by a single father and never knew what it felt like to be loved by a mother.
When her father felt like she was of age to get married, he started prompting her to look for a man and leave his house.
She had no time to do proper assessment on the man that she got because of the pressure she was getting from her father.
After getting married, life was good until her husband started showing his true colours of violence. He would beat her over any misunderstanding but she persevered with hope that he would change some day.
One day he beat her so bad and cut her leg with a kitchen knife. She decided to run away to her father’s house but he asked her to go back to her husband.
She had no choice because it was clear that her father was not ready to accommodate her.
Reaching her matrimonial home, her husband had become more violent than before. He started a fight at night and he wanted to cut her with an axe.
Robinah struggled to defend herself even though they were fighting in the dark. She managed to run away not knowing that the axe had hit her husband’s head.
Robinah said, “We were fighting in total darkness as he wanted to beat me with an axe on my head. I was fighting trying to snatch the axe from his hands but it hit him and he started bleeding”
That when she came back home with hopes that her husband had calmed down, she found people gathered in the compound and they informed her that they found him bleeding and lying lifelessly on the ground.
She was almost killed by the mob but her brother-in-law saved her as they called the police on her.
Robinah spent four years in prison without any court hearing then later on given a death sentence. She stayed at the prison for more years as she waited to be executed but the court decided to be lenient on her by jailing her for 16 more years. The total number of years she spent in prison were 24.
When she was released, she was very happy but her joy was short-lived when she realised that no one wanted her.
That her children have never shown any interest in interacting with her because relatives poisoned their minds that she is responsible for their father’s death.
She tearfully admitted that she killed their father but she did not do it willingly. It was by accident because she was just trying to defend herself.
Robinah is currently living in a very poor environment with no family and friends. No one around her can give her a job because they know her story.
