After crossing paths with President William Ruto in the run up to the 2017 general election, businessman Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop alias Buzeki decided to go his own way.

After failing to clinch the Jubilee Party nomination ticket to run for Uasin Gishu County Governor position, Buzeki decided to team up with Dr Ruto’s bitter rival, Isaac Ruto who served as Bomet Governor.

By running on a Chama Cha Mashinani party ticket, Buzeki hoped to oust the incumbent, Jackson Mandago. But his attempt proved futile as he was whitewashed at the ballot.

In the run up to the 2022 poll, he once again stood his grand and opted not to join Dr Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party. As a result, he became a marked man in Ruto’s home county of Uasin Gishu.

He once again ran for Governor as an independent candidate but ended up losing to UDA party candidate, Jonathan Bii alias Koti Moja. It was a second defeat in five years for this billionaire businessman.

For the man who is said to be politically principled, what does future hold for Buzeki? Having found himself in the political cold once again in the wake of another defeat, could this be the end of the tycoon politician’s political adventure?

As things stand, unless he makes peace with the President, it will take a miracle for Buzeki to make a mark in Rift Valley and more so Uasin Gishu County politics. Will he be forced into a permanent political retirement?
