Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was left in disbelief after he got a cold reception in Ukambani region on Saturday.
The DP was accompanied by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, Tourism counterpart Peninah Malonza, among other government officials.
Speaking in Kitui when he attended the fund drive for St Charles Lwanga, the DP expressed his disappointment on how the leaders from the region were not present during the event.
He wondered why the area leaders didn’t attend the event to participate in its progress.
He felt disappointed that leaders had come all the way from Nairobi while locals gave a wide berth.
He fired attacks on Ukambani leaders saying, despite being in positions of leadership and receiving salaries, they were not concerned with the sad state of schools in their region.
It is alleged that political differences between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza camp made leaders from the region not to attend the event. This was Gachagau’s first visit to Ukambani.
He told off those opposing financial bill to avoid engaging in unwinnable battles arguing that the government has numbers in Parliament.
