Residents of Koran Hindi village in Garissa County who were affected by drought breathed a sigh of relief after the military distributed free food items and clean water in the region.
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops based at Sangailu Forward Operating Base (FOB) led by Major Julius Ngolesia distributed foodstuffs and clean water to residents who were affected by the persistent drought that hit the region in the recent past.
According to the report that has been issued by the military this Tuesday, April 25, the military teamed up with Ijara Member of Parliament Hon. Ali Abdi to facilitate the food and water distribution exercise.
“The soldiers in collaboration with Ijara Member of Parliament Hon. Ali Abdi distributed clean water and assorted foodstuffs,” read the report by KDF in part.
The troops also visited Sangailu Police Station to have a word with their police counterparts with the aim of beefing up security in the region.
It should be noted that Garissa is one of the regions in the country that has been recording a series of terror attacks in the recent past.
Suspected al-Shabaab terrorists have been sneaking into the country before launching attacks in Garissa, Mandera and other coastal counties like Lamu.
The militants have, in most cases, used improvised explosives to launch attacks.
“The KDF soldiers further met area security teams at Sangailu Police Station with an aim of beefing up security in the region,” KDF affirmed.
MP Ali Abdi lauded the military and other security agencies for the great work they have been doing in the region to ensure the county is safe from terror attacks.
He noted that his office “will continue working closely with them to ensure the region remains pacified.”
