Friday, April 14, the Azimio la Umoja Coalition wrote a letter to the International Criminal Court located in The Hague, Netherlands, asking for an investigation into the political state of affairs in Kenya.

The letter, authored by Paul Mwangi, a lawyer who formerly worked for Prime Minister Raila Odinga, accused President William Ruto of showing disrespect for Kenya’s Constitution and laws, as well as disregard for democratic principles and institutions.

Mwangi provided a list of nine problems that he requested the ICC to address in order to bring stability back to the country.

In the letter, Azimio accused Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome of forming a rogue police unit to target its supporters during demonstrations.

The letter reported that the demonstrations resulted in the death of nine individuals and left more than 10 others injured. It also highlighted the incident where law enforcement officers fired ten bullets at Raila Odinga’s vehicle in the Pipeline area of Embakasi South Constituency on April 3, which was reported the following day, but no action was taken despite lodging a complaint on the same day.

The letter also mentioned the raid on Northlands Farm in Ruiru, Kiambu County, associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the destruction of property at East Africa Spectre Limited, which belongs to Raila’s family.

Additionally, the letter referred to eight journalists who were allegedly attacked during the anti-government protests, as stated by Raila’s lawyer. The suit against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was based on the accusation that he delegitimised Azimio members.
