Today we are going to look at some films that did not fare well at the box office for some obvious reasons, of course, but not necessarily that the films are bad or not a good watch, but because they did not return the same value that the studio invested in the budget. We are going to look at some of the Hollywood big and small budget movies, and by the end of the article, I am going to give you two exclusive movies that will be a joy for you fans.
Morbius
Morbius does a risky experiment that has unintended repercussions in an effort to treat the disease that has consumed him for his entire life. The budget of the movie was between $75 and $83 million. If we add on double that for marketing and advertising, we get almost 150–160 million dollars for the budget. The movie itself made 167.5 million dollars at the box office, and we can clearly see why it failed. It is disappointing because it is a Marvel movie, and they usually do well at the box office, but this one in particular failed because of poor scripting, no momentum, and no clear attachment to other Marvel movies, especially Spider-Man. Morbius is supposed to be a Spider-Man villain, and many fans expected to see Spider-Man in the movie.
Blade runner 2049
K, a member of the Los Angeles Police Department, discovers a secret that can cause mayhem. He seeks out a former Blade Runner who hasn’t been seen in more than 30 years. For this one, it had a budget of 150–185 million dollars and made up to 267.5 million dollars at the box office. For this one, it is unclear now why it did not make that much of a return at the box office. Although it did not bomb like the previous pick, it also did not generate as much as expected. The reason for this one may be that it was well ahead of its time, and audiences now appreciate its great visuals and characters.
Black Adam
After approximately 5000 years in a guardhouse and receiving the heavenly power of the Egyptian Gods, Black Adam is released and chooses to unleash his own brand of justice on the world.
The Northman
When his uncle, who has abducted the boy’s mother, brutally murders the boy’s father, Prince Amleth is just about to become a man. Amleth is now a Viking who raids Slavic villages twenty years later. His vow to save his mother, kill his uncle, and exact revenge on his father is promptly recalled by a seer. This pick was actually great; the only reason it did not do well at the box office is that epic movies and films have been on the decline since Game of Thrones. Budget: 70–90 million, box office: 69.6 million.
The 355
When a top-secret weapon is obtained by some mercenaries, CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown teams up with a rival German agent, a cutting-edge computer expert, and a Colombian psychologist. Together, the four ladies set out on a hasty journey to save the planet while evading a shadowy entity that is keeping tabs on their every move. The reason why this bombed at the box office is because it was competing with The Grey Man. Another reason was because it starred only female actors in star roles which is not a bad thing but Hollywood had tried to push this type of movie before, but they did not work, it looked like a knockoff of other action movies with stunts done by male actors, and it had no creativity to it. The budget was 40–75 million dollars, but it only generated 27.8 million dollars at the box office. Surely it had some fans excited, but it wasn’t enough to bring in the big sales at the theaters.
The movies below are my picks that I attempt to forward to you in the hope that they will give you a sense of what a great watch is like. This does not mean that the picks above are not good, but the ones below could just make you a better person.
No country for old men 2007
A hunter’s life is dramatically changed when he comes upon two million dollars while walking through the remains of a drug operation. A psychotic assassin who wants the cash then pursues him.
Fight club 1999
A white-collar insomniac who is dissatisfied with his materialistic way of life teams up with the irresponsible soap salesman Tyler to start an underground combat club. Their endeavor quickly turns into something horrible.
