Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed calls by Azimio leader Raila Odinga to reinstate former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners, known as the Cherera Four, as unconstitutional.
The Prime CS argues that such demands have no basis in law and that the country cannot afford to entertain discussions that are out of line with the Constitution or existing laws. This comes after Raila demanded the reinstatement of the four commissioners who were pushed out of office as part of his conditions to call off mass action.
Former Vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera and commissioners Justus Nyang’aya and Francis Wanderi resigned, while Irene Masit was removed from office by a tribunal.
However, Mudavadi has argued that there is no law that allows the President to discuss with Raila about the former IEBC commissioners who almost plunged the country into chaos. He questioned the legality of reinstating people who were nearly responsible for costing the country so much.
Mudavadi said that the government is stable and ready to deliver on its agenda to Kenyans, with a focus on resuscitating the economy. He made these remarks while speaking in Kisii during the homecoming ceremony of Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. The government is keen on using legal means to address any issues that arise, and it cannot be expected to entertain illegal demands
