The looming conflict between President Ruto and Mr Odinga has become a deadlock between the two sides with no progress towards peaceful resolution. It appears that their entourages, the top leadership and their hardliners, are egging them on, driving them further and further away from compromise.

The Deputy President and Mr Odinga remain firm in their rejection of a peaceful approach. Meanwhile, the government appears to have no qualms about stifling dissent through punishing threats against news outlets that dare to report on the protests.

The current tension does not seem to be improving, only further intensifying the conflict. Unless the top leadership reconsiders their hardened positions and embrace dialogue, the country could very soon be headed for an all-out war.

With an uneasy atmosphere created due to the stalemate between political factions, the citizens of Kenya remain hopeful that diplomatic conversations will prevail in the end, leading to peace and stability in the nation.
