On Wednesday afternoon, a group of Azimio leaders led by former Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya, visited the Nairobi Central Police Station to notify the officers of upcoming demonstrations on Monday and Thursday next week.

Other leaders who were present include: George Wajackoyah, Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee SG Jeremiah Kioni and a battery of lawyers as well as other leaders from the coalition.

Details have now leaked on what was contained in the letter submitted to the police. The letter was addressed to the inspector general of police Japheth Koome, notifying him of Azimio’s intention to hold protests across all the 47 counties.

The letter stated that the coalition and it’s followers will be demonstrating every Monday and Thursday until further notice.

In the letter, Oparanya asks the officers to provide enough security to the demonstrators. He goes ahead to say that police officers who will go to the rallies without uniform will be treated as thugs and hired goons and Azimio leaders will have no choice other than arresting them.

“This is a notification to enable the police provide adequate security to the demonstrators. By this notice; kindly provide adequate security. Further to this; we put police on notice that we will allow only uniformed police to bear arms; plain clothes in arms will be dealt with as thugs and hired goons and committed to civilian arrests as allowed per the law,” Oparanya said.

The letter further indicates that the Azimio coalition will submit petitions to county commanders, sub county commanders as well as all other state offices as part of their weekly protests.
