Raila Odinga, the leader of Kenya’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, has recently responded to accusations made by the Foreign Affairs Ministry regarding his alleged attempt to overthrow the sitting President.
In a lengthy letter addressed to foreign countries, Raila defended himself against the accusations and provided counterarguments to the claims made by the Ministry. He pointed out that the Kenyan constitution protects demonstrations, which he organized and participated in.
Raila also stated that the police had used excessive force during the demonstrations and that the government is attempting to change the narrative that occurred in the presence of the international community.
Furthermore, Raila argued that the results of the election that led to the sitting President’s win were null and void, and that the Supreme Court was compromised to side with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
While political drama continues to unfold in Kenya, it is essential to remain mindful of the rights protected by the country’s constitution and to ensure that all parties are given the opportunity to defend themselves against accusations.
