Former prime minister Raila Odinga’s rally on Friday was brought to a stop abruptly after armed police officers stormed his meeting in Githurai and dispersed the people that had come to meet him and his convoy. Photos that have been shared on the internet from the scene have shown people running for their lives as the officers caused trouble.
The incident is said to have happened while Raila and other Azimio affiliates were addressing their supporters on the road side. A teargas canister was then thrown into the crowd making the people to run in different directions. Although the cause of the disorderliness has not yet been established, people have said that there were plans to disrupt Raila’s rallies in the area.
Raila and other Azimio leaders have condemned the move made by the police officers. They have however maintained that they will remain resilient despite the attempts being made to stop them.
