Congolese guitarist Lokassa ya M’bongo is dead. Lokassa, whose guitar wizardry accompanied many Lingala songs of the 1990s.While sharing on his social media, The blackest man in Africa, Fred Obachi, shared the late Lokasa’s photo and captioned it, “Rest in peace.” LEGEND Lokassa Kasia Denis, a.k.a.Lokassa ya Mbongo, Lokassa ya Dollar!!!! Man, you were the best rhythmist in matters Soukous music; Rhumba fans shall miss you; I shall miss you. Thank you for the music. He made a name for himself as a member of Soukous Stars and is arguably one of the DRC’s best rhythm guitarists, specializing in the up-tempo soukous style. He is known to hordes of his fans as “Lokassa ya Dollar.”The soft-spoken Lokassa, known for his mega-hits such as Monica and Marie Jose, toured Colombia, a country known for its love for Congolese rumba music.
Lokassa has, however, not been active, only occasionally performing with some of his fellow veteran Congolese stars. May His Soul Rest In Peace.
