President William Ruto on Wednesday, March 15, nominated Margaret Karungaru as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission.

President William Ruto has continued to make appointments of several leaders to his Government and what has come out to play is that the biggest beneficiaries as his allies and those who are close to him and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Just like Gachagua said that the Kenya Kwanza government is like a company with shareholders, the appointment of Gachagua’s In-law by Ruto as cemented his remarks. Margaret Karungaru is the wife of the formed Nyeri Governor the late, Nderitu Gachagua.

Margaret Karungaru also tried her luck in the Nyeri County Woman Representative position in the August 2022 election but was unsuccessful. The message of appointment was conveyed by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula who said that Karungaru was appointed by Ruto to be a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission.

“I wish to convey a message from the President for the nomination of a person for the appointment of a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission.” Speaker Wetangula announced.

Hee appointment has however raised sharp criticism from a section of Kenyans who have said that Ruto is turning the government into a family affairs by awarding friends and family members with prime positions in his government.
