Tension is high in Meru Town after protests erupted on Tuesday, 14th February, over dusty roads as locals engaged police in running battles through the morning hours.
Protesters took to the streets of the town to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the state of the roads which have been left dusty and in poor condition due to lack of maintenance. The roads have become a major source of frustration for the locals who have been calling for action for many months.
In response to the protests, police were forced to lob tear gas to disperse the crowds. Many of the protesters were reportedly injured in the commotion.
The incident has highlighted the serious issues faced by the town and its residents in relation to the state of the roads. It is hoped that the government will act swiftly to ensure the issue is addressed and the town can return to a state of calm.
