Retired director of Information and former Voice of Kenya (General Service) presenter George Opiyo is to be laid to rest in Awasi, Kisumu County. The veteran broadcaster died on Wednesday, 9th 2022 at the Nairobi Hospital where he was hospitalized for 2 weeks.
The Ministry of Information, Communication and digital economy recalled the late Opiyo’s service as the Director of Information Kenya, where he served for many years before he retired. Kenya News Agency (KNA) officers continue to mourn those who professionally mentored them and supported them.
Fred Obachi Machoka said that the younger generation will not know of him but the older generation knows of him too well. Mr. Opiyo was well known for writing Saturday Edition and broadcasting the Voice of Kenya (VOK) English Service.
MCSK boss Ezekiel Mutua, who is a predecessor of George Opiyo also paid his tributes saying he was a great man. Ezekiel Mutua served as Director of Information between 2007 to 2011. Fans are also sending their condolences via social media, as one Facebook user was in the spotlight for writing a moving tribute for the late Opiyo.
