Kawira Mwangaza is currently the county’s new governor after defeating both the incumbent governor, Kiraitu Murungi, and Mithika Linturi Kawira of the UDA party, who replaced Florence Kajuju as the MP for Meru County in 2017. Kawira, who sought the seat as an independent, has recently joined William Ruto’s Kenya kwanza.
Mithika Linturi, a former senator and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) opponent, came in second with 183,859 votes, while Murungi came in third with 110,814 votes. The former Meru women representative won the election on an Independent ticket with 209,148 votes.
On Tuesday, August 17, Kawira announced on social media that she had formally joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance group.”I’m excited to announce to my community that tomorrow I will formally join the winning team that will make up the next administration. I believe this will contribute to the prosperity of our county “She uttered.
The Kenya Kwanza community is ecstatic about this. They are currently electing additional governors.
