Popular Kikuyu gospel musician Kamau Karongo has conceded defeat to Kabau Muthondu in Kihara Member of County Assembly (MCA) contest.
Karongo, who was vying on an independent ticket, garnered 3,706 votes against Jubilee’s Kabau who got 4,440 ballots in his favour.
Josephat Kamanya of Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) emerged third with 3,169 votes.
Karongo thanked his supporters for standing with him and congratulated Kabau for winning the contest to represent Kihara ward in the Kiambu county Assembly for another 5 years.
“We emerged 2nd in Kihara ward MCA race. Thank you all so much my friends for standing with me. It was not easy but I enjoyed the journey. I congratulate Mr Kabau Muthondu. We go back to build positive relationships and Good Neighbourhood. Gachie hatuhami. Iam a GN. Thank you,” he posted on Facebook on Friday.
Karongo has been singing, playing instruments and composing songs for over 2 decades now and is among most-sought after artists in the gospel music industry.
In 2009 he was nominated for the Atlanta-based Talanta Award. He competed in the Non-US-based category. He was voted the non-US-based male musician of the year. The video for Mungu u Mwema off his Ngoro Yakwa album also won the Short Film award in Joplin, Missouri.
