Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk” had its season 5 premiere yesterday. And of course, most people tuned in expecting a mention of the Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscar incident.
And the show didn’t disappoint but with a rather timid response. It used a title card at the beginning of the episode released on Facebook Watch with a caption reading,
“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing.”
It added,
“Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls. Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring, and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest.”

The episode then began with a pre-taped segment featuring Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Pinkett’s mother, Adrienne Banfield featuring special guest Janelle Monáe.
There was no further mention of Smith smacking Chris Rock, which took place at the Oscars on March 27.
The incident happened after Chris compared Pinkett (who suffers from alopecia) to Demi Moore’s bald character in “G.I. Jane.”

Like most of the crowd, Will at first laughed but would later do a Jerkl and Hyde impression and became the aggressor as he went on stage and slapped a stunned Rock.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Will then sat down and started shouting vulgarities at Rock, saying,
“Keep my wife’s name out of your f – – king mouth!” And repeated the same phrase another time for effect.
Chris showed his class and continued with his presentation before leaving the stage. Smith would later win the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “King Richard.”
After a fierce backlash to the incident, Will resigned from the Academy which then banned the actor from all Oscar-related events for 10 years.
