Dear men, do you know how to behave in an office setting?
On the Monday March 14 conversation, Maina and Kingangi spoke about office harassment.
Notices are being put up in workplaces cautioning against sexual harassment. Maina said ‘there is a notice that has been put up in our office, and will be every other office. It talks about sexual harassment. There are some things that are illegal and mwalimu is saying men are the victims’
Kingangi tried pronouncing some of the words like learing ‘‘what is learing? aki ya ngai hio kizungu yote,’
Maina read out what is contained in the notice ‘and making gestures, cat calls, whistling, foul obscene language, making derogatory comments, making kissing sounds,’
‘in other words hizo words zote ni wanaume watafutwa’ Kingangi said ‘ushaona mwanaume mmoja amereport ameharasiwa, hii ina target wanaume,’
‘Are Kenyan men harassed, and do Kenyan men understand how to behave in an office, do they get it?’ Maina opened disscussion, ‘and are Kenyan men harassed in the office?’
‘Do you know what you risk losing if fired?’ Kingangi asked, ‘you lose benefits, you are fired, na hakuna mahali uttaenda as a man? eh,’
‘Yes’ Maina agreed adding ‘do men get it?’
‘all these rules are targeting men, guza mtu uone’ Kingangi cautioned.
Men called in saying that dress code for female employees should be put in place to avoid it all.
Do you understand these rules, because men are saying there is no protection for them.
