Slay Q

A Kenyan man has sparked debate on social media after sharing his marital frustrations, warning fellow men against marrying women he describes as “slay queens”.

In an emotional post, the man claimed he has been left shouldering almost all the financial and domestic responsibilities in his household, despite struggling to make ends meet.

He revealed that his family’s monthly expenses amount to approximately KSh77,000, covering rent, food, electricity, water, school fees, clothing and other basic necessities.

Breaking down the expenses, he said he pays KSh20,000 in rent, KSh15,000 for food, KSh5,000 for electricity and KSh2,000 for water, with the remaining amount going towards education and other household needs.

The man explained that his financial situation has become increasingly difficult because he works in the informal sector, where his monthly earnings rarely exceed KSh30,000.

To supplement his income, he operates an omena business and takes on various online jobs in an effort to meet his family’s needs.

Beyond providing financially, he claimed that he also handles a significant portion of the household chores, including cooking and cleaning.

He explained that their former househelp recently left to join college, forcing him and his younger brother to take up meal preparation and other domestic duties.

The man further claimed that he had established a small business for his wife to give her an independent source of income and help her cater for her personal expenses. However, he maintained that he still feels overwhelmed by the responsibilities at home.

Reflecting on his marriage, he questioned how much hardship someone should endure in a relationship and how many times partners should forgive each other.

He also hinted that his latest post could be the last time he publicly discusses his marital struggles.

His revelations have sparked mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans sympathising with his financial challenges while others debate the importance of shared responsibilities, financial cooperation and understanding in marriage.

The man’s claims have not been independently verified.
