Students from Brookhurst International School recently had an opportunity to learn about television production during an educational visit to Citizen TV studios in Nairobi.

The visit on Wednesday, October 28, brought the learners into contact with professionals working in the media industry. It offered them an opportunity to understand how television programmes are produced and the different responsibilities involved in running a broadcasting station.

Stephanie Mumbua, popularly known as Mumbus, was among the students who took part in the activity. She is the daughter of Kenyan filmmaker Abel Mutua and currently serves as a student co president at Brookhurst International School.

During the visit, the students interacted with Citizen TV news anchor Rashid Abdalla and other members of the Royal Media Services team. Their experience provided a glimpse into the working environment behind the news and other television content watched by audiences across the country.

For learners, visiting a professional workplace can offer a different perspective from what they encounter in class. It allows them to connect their studies with practical experiences while learning about career opportunities they might consider after completing their education.

The visit also placed Mumbus in a setting where student leadership and learning outside the classroom came together. As a student co president, she has an opportunity to participate in school activities that go beyond academic work and involve representing fellow learners.

Mumbus was elected to the leadership position alongside Alpha Busara in July 2026. She is currently in her final year at Brookhurst International School’s Kiserian campus.

Her education has occasionally drawn public attention because of her father’s profile in Kenya’s entertainment industry. Abel Mutua, who is known for his work as a filmmaker and storyteller, has previously shared aspects of his family life with his audience.

However, the school visit was primarily an opportunity for the learners to gain exposure to the media industry and interact with people working in the field.

Experiences of this kind can help students develop a better understanding of different professions before making decisions about their future careers. They also provide an opportunity to learn from people whose daily work may be difficult to appreciate fully from a classroom setting alone.

For the Brookhurst students, the visit offered a practical introduction to television broadcasting and a chance to see the work involved in bringing programmes to viewers.
