Shock has gripped Muthara area in Juja, Kiambu County, after a 33-year-old woman was found murdered behind her home.
Susan Njoki Nyaga was discovered on October 16, 2026, after her husband returned from work and found her behind their bungalow in Nyacaba Sub-Location, Komo Location.
Reports indicate that the husband had left home at about 7:30 am to report to work at a slaughterhouse in the BAT Makongeni area. He left Susan carrying out household chores.
During the day, he reportedly tried to call her several times, but the calls went unanswered. This made him worried, and he decided to return home after work. When he arrived at around 7 pm, he discovered the body and raised the alarm.
According to the police assessment, Susan was lying on her back, with her neck twisted and her face covered by a hoodie. Investigators found pieces of cloth stuffed into her mouth and a white shoelace tightly tied around her neck.
Preliminary findings suggested that unknown attackers may have entered the compound by scaling the perimeter wall while Susan was doing laundry. However, detectives had not established the attack time.
The suspects reportedly stole household items worth about Sh64,000. The missing items included a 42-inch Vision television valued at Sh20,000, an Oppo phone and a Tecno Camon 7 estimated at Sh40,000 combined, and a 13-kilogramme K-Gas cylinder worth Sh4,000.
Despite the theft, investigators noted that other valuable belongings remained inside the house. They observed that the suspects appeared to have accessed only the living room, even though other rooms were unlocked.
The circumstances have raised questions about whether robbery was the main motive for the killing or whether the attackers had another reason for targeting Susan.
Crime scene experts processed and documented the area before the body was removed.
Officers said they have started efforts to identify, trace, and arrest the suspects.
Residents have been urged to share any useful information with police as the investigation continues.
